Working Moms

I really sympathize with Gov. Palin. I'm not saying I agree with her politics, but man, she is getting hammered in the media. I hate that media are asking, "How can a mother of 5 be vice president?" Obviously, that's a ridiculous question that would never be asked (and hasn't been asked) of a man. But, honestly, I'm curious, how can a mother of 5 be vice president?

I ask that because I can relate. I am - like many of my friends - a working mom with two kids, not five, both of which are healthy, neither of which are pregnant, and I struggle on a day-to-day basis. I have two trips planned for October (Detroit and Dallas) that I'm already dreading, let alone going on a 65-day campaigning spree.

But one of the most disturbing things out of all of the criticism she has received is that a lot of it is coming from women. Women can be so mean. Those who breast feed often judge those who don't; those who stay home look down on those who work. Shame on us.

I don't begrudge Gov. Palin one bit. She could be the vice president of the United States for God's sake. What better example can she set for her children than pursuing this opportunity and this dream?

Granted, I hope she doesn't win, but I give her credit for trying.
